Overview

Gold Armor is the headline item of the official LeFemm Armor plugin, which was made with female characters in mind. Every piece has a base armor rating of 60. That beats Royal Guard Armor from Tribunal at 55, Indoril Armor at 45, and Adamantium Armor at 40, so no medium set rates higher.

The catch is the coverage. Gold Armor is only a helmet, a cuirass and two pauldrons. You'll need other sets for the greaves, boots, gauntlets and shield.

None of this is in the base game. The set comes from the official LeFemm Armor plugin. The GOG release bundles it but leaves it switched off, so enable it under Data Files in the launcher. Steam doesn't include it, but UESP's plugins page has the download.

How to Get Gold Armor at Level 1

The set sits in the Redoran Vaults in Vivec, and you can take it from the start of the game. You need a stolen key and a bit of patience. The video was shot with a fresh level 1 character straight out of Seyda Neen.

Getting to Redoran Plaza

The Redoran Canton is directly south of Vivec's Foreign Quarter. Climb to the third floor of the Canton, which is Redoran Plaza. Dralor Manor and the Treasury are both up here.

Redoran Plaza

Stealing the Key

Head to Dralor Manor and go up the steps. There's a door on your left. Open it, then close it slightly and stand in the gap so you block anyone's view. Open the chest inside and take the key. Do it this way and you shouldn't get caught.

Into the Treasury

The Treasury is also in Redoran Plaza. Go inside and take the steps down to the vaults. Then keep going to the lowest level of the vault.

The Lower Vault

At the bottom there's a locked door, and the key you just took opens it. UESP lists it as a level 90 lock with a trap, so don't try this without the key.

An Ordinator is waiting inside, and you don't want him around while you loot. Wait it out. Use the wait button and he'll eventually walk out and shut the door behind him. The door has holes in it, but he can't see you take anything through them.

Gold armor in the Redoran Vault

The Gold Armor is on the shelf: the cuirass, the helmet and both pauldrons. Take all four.

What Else Is in the Vault

You're not leaving with just Gold Armor. The shelves also hold enchanted Bonemold armor, enchanted weapons, and two glass weapons, with an Ebony helmet on the top shelf. The table has a pile of Ebony armor, including the greaves, the cuirass and a shield, plus a couple of weapons.

There are also chests in the vault holding more Ebony gear. The key doesn't open them, so bring a couple of unlock scrolls.

Other Ways to Get It

If you'd rather buy than break in, Lorbumol gro-Aglakh sells Gold Armor at the Fighters Guild in Vivec. You can also steal it from the closet behind him. The set's base value is 7,400 gold, so budget for at least that.

The vault is the better deal. You get the armor for free, plus a lot of other gear.

Filling the Gaps

Gold Armor leaves your legs, feet, hands and off-hand empty. These are the easiest substitutes from the other armor guides. All of them rate lower than Gold, so wear them for coverage and not for armor rating.

Filling the Gaps
Greaves
Adamantium Greaves, the standard medium armor substitute
Boots
Indoril Boots from Feril Salmyn at Kogoruhn, or Adamantium Boots from Meldor's chest in Balmora
Gauntlets
Indoril Gauntlets from Feril Salmyn at Kogoruhn, or Adamantium Bracers from Meldor's chest in Balmora
Shield
Indoril Shield from Feril Salmyn at Kogoruhn (there is no Adamantium shield)

Who It's For / Tips & Things to Know

Best for: Anyone who wants the highest armor rating a medium set can offer without grinding for it. Four pieces at 60 each is a real jump over Indoril's 45, and you can have it at level 1. The cuirass is the heavy piece at 26, and the whole set weighs 48.

Not for enchanters: Gold's enchant capacity is low. The cuirass has 14 and the helmet 9. The Helm of Tohan has 150 on its own, so if you plan to enchant, pick a different helmet.

The Ordinator fix: The Indoril helmet and cuirass are the two pieces that turn every Ordinator hostile. UESP points out that Gold Armor is a good replacement for them. Wear the Gold helmet, cuirass and pauldrons, then fill the other slots with Indoril boots, gauntlets and a shield, and you get Indoril-level coverage with no Ordinator problem. See the Indoril Armor guide for the full story.

How it looks: I think Gold Armor looks a little goofy. It was designed for female characters, so it looks even sillier on a male character.
